Surrounded by Utah’s wealthy elite at his “GSL 2034” press conference, Gov. Cox announced a promise to the Great Salt Lake: $200 million in private funding and a goal of healthy lake levels by the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

But saving the lake will take meaningful policy change–which state leaders have repeatedly refused to enact–and billions more dollars. Meanwhile, Utah children are breathing dust laced with arsenic, thallium, and lead, which can cause lifelong harm including cancer, diabetes, and permanent brain and nervous system damage.

With our lives and lungs on the line, we won’t sit around waiting for the ultra-rich to save us. We’re responding with our own People’s Press Conference–to hold state leaders accountable and ensure “GSL 2034” isn’t just another empty promise.
